Qwanoes Summer Staff 2010

Program Positions:

Serve God in a dynamic, adventure—packed ministry capacity this summer, giving leadership or assisting in the running of the camp program and recreational activities, according to your specific skills and experience. In addition to the specific responsibilities listed, each program position also includes assisting in various program events, and some may also include some counseling.

A number of these are leadership positions with the opportunity to head up an activity area and offer guidance to the activity staff assigned there. These positions require a higher level of training and experience, and offer challenge and responsibility to the motivated leader.

Events Assistant (2 Positions)

Option 1 Apr. 28 to Sep. 5 (Support Goal: $6025; Qwanoes contributes $2550 if needed.)

Option 2 May. 18 to Sep. 5 (Support Goal: $5150; Qwanoes contributes $1925 if needed.)

Assists the Events Coordinator in planning, organizing, coordinating, and leading camp games and special events in a team approach. Must have recreational and leadership experience, good organizational and communication skills, and a strong interest in event planning. Inquire about earlier Advance Crew option. Required to attend Staff Leadership Orientation.

Assistant Recreation Coordinator

Apr. 28 to Sep. 5 (Support Goal: $6400; Qwanoes contributes $2750 if needed.)

Responsible for assisting in coordinating and overseeing the entire recreational activity program including camp activities, staff, safety, administration, maintenance, and general program support. Must have substantial recreation leadership experience and/or training, strong administrative skills, very good organizational and communication skills, proficiency in various camp activities, and should have previous training in first aid. Required to attend Staff Leadership Orientation.

Waterfront Leader

Apr. 28 to Sep. 5 (Support Goal: $6400; Qwanoes contributes $2925 if needed.)

Responsible for leading and supervising the entire waterfront program, including guest activities, staff, safety, equipment and general maintenance. In charge of lifeguards, instructors, boat operators and support staff as required. Must be at least 20, have minimum NLS, substantial lifeguarding and leadership experience, organizational skills, and proficiency in various water activities. Also assists in various program events and general operations support as needed. Required to attend Staff Leadership Orientation.

Assistant Waterfront Leader

May. 11 to Sep. 5 (Support Goal: $5300; Qwanoes contributes $2300 if needed.)

Assists in running the entire waterfront program. Also assists in various program events and general operations support as needed, and may include some counseling. Must have minimum NLS, lifeguarding experience, leadership abilities, and proficiency in various water activities. Inquire about earlier Advance Crew option. Required to attend Staff Leadership Orientation.

Challenge Course Leader

Apr. 28 to Sep. 5 (Support Goal: $6400; Qwanoes contributes $2750 if needed.)

Responsible for leading and supervising the entire challenge course program, including guest activities, staff, safety, equipment, and general maintenance. In charge of belayers and support staff as required. Must be at least 19, have minimum basic first aid training, substantial belaying and leadership experience, organizational skills, and proficiency in various challenge course activities. Also assists in various program events and general operations support as needed. Required to attend Staff Leadership Orientation.

Assistant Challenge Course Leader

Apr. 28 to Sep. 5 (Support Goal: $6025; Qwanoes contributes $2550 if needed.)

Assists in running the entire challenge course program. Also assists in various program events and general operations support as needed, and may include some counseling. Substantial belaying experience and minimum basic first aid training are required. Required to attend Staff Leadership Orientation.

Land Activity Leader

Apr. 28 to Sep. 5 (Support Goal: $6400; Qwanoes contributes $2750 if needed.)

Responsible for coordinating and supervising the land activity program, including guest activities, staff, safety, equipment, and activity maintenance. The land activity program includes mountain biking, mountain boarding, archery, skateboarding, team sports, trampoline, hiking, Carpetball Hut activities, ping pong, horseshoes, guitar instruction, drama, the activity portion of Club Coco, and the playground. Also assists in various program events and with general operations support as needed. Must be at least 19, have minimum basic first aid training, recreation and leadership experience, organizational skills, and proficiency in various land activities. Required to attend Staff Leadership Orientation.

Mountain Bike Leader

May. 25 to Sep. 5 (Support Goal: $4700; Qwanoes contributes $1750 if needed.)

Responsible for planning and leading the mountain biking program including teaching skills, leading the Peak Experience guest option, safety, and maintaining bikes. Basic first aid certification and bike maintenance skills are required. Also assists in various program events and general operations support as needed. This position includes counseling or Activity Support at Juniors camps. Inquire about earlier Advance Crew option.

Skate Park Leader

May. 25 to Sep. 5 (Support Goal: $4700; Qwanoes contributes $1750 if needed.)

Responsible for planning and leading the skateboard program, including teaching skills, leading the Skate Club guest option, safety, and maintaining the Skate Park and equipment. Basic first aid training is preferred. Also assists in various program events and general operations support as needed, activity maintenance, and may include some counseling. Inquire about earlier Advance Crew option.

Head Ski Instructor

May. 25 to Sep. 5 (Support Goal: $4700; Qwanoes contributes $1750 if needed.)

Responsible for planning and leading the waterskiing/wakeboarding program, including teaching skills, leading the Ski Club guest option, guest safety and maintaining equipment. Basic first aid certification is preferred. Also assists in various program events and general operations support as needed, and may include some counseling. Required to attend the Waterskiing Instructor Training Workshop. Inquire about earlier Advance Crew option.

Head Boat Driver

May. 18 to Sep. 5 (Support Goal: $5300; Qwanoes contributes $2200 if needed.)

Responsible for the daily operation of ski boats, including safety and the care and maintenance of all boats. Must be at least 20, have a valid Canadian Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC), have a basic first aid certificate, and previous power boating experience and training. Also assists with general operations support as needed. Required to attend the <Waterskiing Instructor Training Workshop and Staff Leadership Orientation. Inquire about earlier Advance Crew option.

Assistant Boat Driver (2 Positions)

Option 1 May. 25 to Sep. 5 (Support Goal: $4700; Qwanoes contributes $1800 if needed.)

Option 2 Jun. 8 to Sep. 5 (Support Goal: $4200; Qwanoes contributes $1600 if needed.)

Assists in the daily operation of ski boats, including safety and assisting with the care and maintenance of all boats. May also assist in various program events and activity maintenance. Must be at least 19, have a valid Canadian Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC), and have a basic first aid certificate. Previous power boating experience and training is strongly preferred. Also assists with general operations support as needed. Required to attend the Waterskiing Instructor Training Workshop. If you can’t make it all summer, come as a volunteer for one or more weeks!

Artrageous Crafts Leader

Jun. 11 to Sep. 5 (Support Goal: $5300; Qwanoes contributes $2125 if needed.)

Responsible for planning, preparing, and leading the entire summer craft program, including guest activities, staff, supplies and general maintenance. Must have substantial leadership experience, organizational skills, and knowledge of a wide variety of arts and crafts. Also assists in various program events and general operations support as needed. Inquire about earlier Advance Crew option. Required to attend Staff Leadership Orientation.

Follow-Up Coordinator

Jun. 1 to Sep. 5 (Support Goal: $4400; Qwanoes contributes $1700 if needed.)

Coordinates the follow-up of campers. Includes corresponding and coordinating with churches, collecting and inputting camper information, selecting churches for campers, sending reports, assisting counselors with follow-up, and helping respond to camper emails to qrok.ca. There is a Post-Summer Wrap-Up option where you could stay until October 4 to continue follow-up and assist with the planning of the Qwanoes Road Tour in October. Encouraged to attend Staff Leadership Orientation.

All-Star United (Activity/Event Support)

Jun. 25 to Sep. 5 (Support Goal: $3700; Qwanoes contributes $1350 if needed.)

Assists in organizing and leading activities and events as part of the All-Star United team, and other program support as required. Specialized skills such as lifeguarding (NLS), boat driving, waterskiing, sailing, mountain biking, mountain boarding or belaying are an asset. Inquire about Advance Crew option.
Options for Activity Component: (please note that a specialization is not necessary)
• Lifeguard. Current NLS is required.
• Ski/Wakeboard Instructor. Strongly encouraged to attend the Waterskiing Instructor Training Workshop.
• Boat Driver. Must be at least 18, have a valid Canadian Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC), and have a basic first aid certificate. Previous power boating experience and training is preferred. Required to attend the Waterskiing Instructor Training Workshop.
• Sailing Instructor. A valid Canadian Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC) is required.
• Belayer. Minimum Qwanoes’ Challenge Course Instructor Level One skills or equivalent are required. Note that these skills plus more may be attained at the Qwanoes’ Challenge Course Instructor Training Workshop.
• Mountain Board Leader or Assistant Mountain Bike Leader. Basic first aid training is preferred.
• A/V Specialist. Experience with sound systems, PowerPoint and video required.
• Activity Maintenance Support. Experience in maintaining activity equipment is needed.

All-Star United & Operations Support (3 Positions)

Jun. 25 to Sep. 5 (Support Goal: $3700; Qwanoes contributes $1350 if needed.)

Serve on All-Star United for half of the summer and in an area of operations for half (food services and/or maintenance). Inquire about Advance Crew option.

Lifeguard/Activity Support (2 Positions)

Option 1 May. 18 to Sep. 5 (Support Goal: $5000; Qwanoes contributes $1925 if needed.)

Option 2 Jun. 25 to Sep. 5 (Support Goal: $3900; Qwanoes contributes $1550 if needed.)

Involves a combination of serving as a lifeguard for part of the day and providing general operations support (food services and/or maintenance) for the other part. Must have minimum NLS, lifeguarding experience, and proficiency in various water activities. Inquire about earlier Advance Crew option. If you can’t make it all summer, come as a volunteer for one or more weeks!

Sailing/Activity Support

Jun. 25 to Sep. 5 (Support Goal: $3900; Qwanoes contributes $1550 if needed.)

Involves a combination of leading the sailing activity for part of the day and providing general operations support (food services and/or maintenance) for the other part. Must be at least 19, have a valid Canadian Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC), and have a basic first aid certificate. Previous sailing experience and training is strongly preferred. Inquire about earlier Advance Crew option. If you can’t make it all summer, come as a volunteer for one or more weeks!

Activity Support

Jun. 25 to Sep. 5 (Support Goal: $3700; Qwanoes contributes $1350 if needed.)

Involves a combination of leading activities and providing general operations support (food services and/or maintenance). Specialized skills such as lifeguarding, boat driving, waterskiing, sailing, mountain biking, mountain boarding or belaying are an asset. The activity component of this position will be decided according to abilities, experience and interests. See All-Star United position description above for Activity Component Options. Drama Coordinator/ASU

Jun. 1 to Sep. 5 (Support Goal: $4400; Qwanoes contributes $1700 if needed.)

Assists in developing, preparing and leading staff in the performance of a variety of skits and dramas throughout the summer. Also assists in leading drama and other activities for campers, leading activities and events as part of the All-Star United team, and other program support as required. May include some counseling. Inquire about earlier Advance Crew option.

Video Producer

Apr. 28 to Sep. 5 (Support Goal: $6400; Qwanoes contributes $2925 if needed.)

Responsible for filming, editing and producing a weekly camp video and other media projects (including daily video highlights, Q-Town media and program related videos). Includes running media (video, sound, lighting and Powerpoint) during all Q-Town or concert sessions. Must be familiar with Apple Final Cut Pro, and experience with Adobe After Effects is an asset. Encouraged to attend Staff Leadership Orientation.

Assistant Video Producer

May. 11 to Sep. 5 (Support Goal: $5300; Qwanoes contributes $2300 if needed.)

Assists the Video Producer in all aspects of video production and media during Q-Town (see "Video Producer" above). Should have working knowledge of Apple Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premier. Inquire about earlier Advance Crew option.

Starwood/Media Support

May. 11 to Sep. 5 (Support Goal: $5300; Qwanoes contributes $2125 if needed.)

Responsible for assisting the Video Producers (see above) in all aspects of video production, and running media during Q-Town or concert sessions.Will also lead the Starwood-DV activity program, including helping campers film, edit and produce highlight videos. Requires a strong aptitude with computers and experience in video editing is helpful (example: Apple Final Cut, iMovie, Photoshop). Also assists in various program events. Inquire about earlier Advance Crew option.

Photographer

May. 25 to Sep. 5 (Support Goal: $4700; Qwanoes contributes $1800 if needed.)

Responsible for a variety of photography and design related projects including: weekly cabin and staff photos, daily printed photo highlights, slide shows, assisting with gathering and organizing of camp promotional photos, and more. May also provide related support to program and media staff. Must be proficient in photography, and have experience with basic photo editing and page layout (minimum Photoshop Elements or equivalent). Inquire about earlier Advance Crew option.

Photographer Assistant

Jun. 8 to Sep. 5 (Support Goal: $4200; Qwanoes contributes $1450 if needed.)

Responsible to assist the Photographer with a variety of projects such as weekly cabin & staff photos, daily printed highlights, slide shows, digital photos on www.qwanoes.ca, cataloguing, prints, etc. This administrative support role includes some photography. Must be task oriented, proficient in photo/image editing and page layout (minimum Photoshop Elements or equivalent) and have good organizational skills. Inquire about earlier Advance Crew option.

Family Camp Program Assistant

Aug. 1 to Aug. 7 (Volunteer Position)

Assists in leading activities and events, helping with Cedar Creek Gang, babysitting, and other program support as required during our one-week Family Camp.
