Family Work Weekend (June 4 - 6, 2010)

Here is a great opportunity for your family to serve together and experience Qwanoes all in one weekend - and there is no cost!

This special weekend will include: serving during Saturday as part of our Summer Work Day (which ends with our special "Prayer Day" program), a family fireside Saturday evening, and a Q-Town Sunday morning.

A Look Back at Family Work Weekend 2010

Cost: no Cost!

We are glad to provide this weekend at no cost. We will provide all meals, transportation from Duke Point, and accommodation in our cabins or Sky Ridge Lodge for no cost! We are looking forward to welcoming you to this very special weekend. (Note that there is a small cost for families choosing to stay in our Pacific Woods Lodge.)

Here’s What The Weekend Will Look Like:

FRIDAY:

  • • Island Guests...Arrive between 7:00 & 9:00 pm
  • • Greater Vancouver Guests...please catch the 5:45 pm ferry from Tsawwassen to Duke Point, and we will be glad to pick you up at Duke Point in Nanaimo. Or, if you do not require a ride, note that you can choose other ferry options.
  • • When you arrive, we will help you settle in to your room, and you can enjoy a mugup. The plan is for a relaxed time Friday evening – join in some frisbee, soccer, crafts, or maybe just hangout at our fireside.

SATURDAY:

  • • We'll start with breakfast together on our Sky Deck where you can enjoy the great ocean view.
  • • Our “Qwanoes Day Of Prayer” begins! We’ll all meet at our fireside for a special time of song and prayer to help focus our day.
  • • Work Assignments: There will be projects for all ages regardless of age! We'll all join a crew led by a Qwanoes staff member, and begin working throughout the camp. Yes – there will be something even for your youngest!
  • • Lunch
  • • Work Assignments: We'll all head back to our project, or be assigned to something new.
  • • Qwanoes Day Of Prayer: At 4:00 pm we'll all meet back at our fireside for part two of our "Qwanoes Day of Prayer". Look forward to a special time of praise and worship, some stories of the impact of camp, and prayer. We'll also do a 'prayer walk' through Qwanoes. By the way – no one will be put on the spot – people can participate as much or as little as they would like. Everyone will learn a lot about the camp and discover more of what happens here.
  • • Dinner
  • • Family Activity: Time now for a change of pace and a fun time together for families.
  • • Fireside: The best way to wrap-up our day will be together around the campfire. Music, crazy skits, a Bible story...and how about marshmellows and some smors? We'll all enjoy what God has accomplished through each of us during the day.
    • SUNDAY:

      • • Breakfast
      • • Q-Town: Look forward to a special Q-Town (one of our first for the summer!) filled with music, praise and worship, a message, and even some video highlights of our previous day. There will also be a special program for children.
      • • Hang-Out Options: There will be lots of time to hang-out, relax and enjoy the peaceful setting of Qwanoes.
      • • Lunch
      • • Departure: Our guests from Greater Vancouver will leave for the ferry around 1:30 pm.

      Questions?

Is there really no cost for this weekend?
Yes – there is no cost!

I have very young kids – will it work to have them come?
Yes! We love kids here, and we would love to have your young ones be part of this day. We will have a fridge and microwave available for you, plus high chairs, and even a quiet "family/nursery room" filled with toys. We will also have some staff available to provide child care. Sure – your four-year old may not be able to take on building a new deck...but there's something he or she can be a part of – and we think the experience will provide a great learning opportunity for your child and for all of us!

I've never been to Qwanoes before – will I fit in?
Yes! Every year we welcome MANY new people from all backgrounds. Not only is camp a great place to connect with God, but it is also is a great place to connect with other people. You may even make a new friend here! We look forward to meeting you and your family.

Do I need to bring my own tools?
No! We will provide all of the tools you'll need. It would be helpful if you brought your own work gloves, though, but if you don't have any – no problem. If you have trade skills and would like to help with a skilled project using your own tools – that would be great. But – keep in mind that you do not need to bring anything.

My kids are grown and no longer live with us – can I join in this weekend?
Yes! We would be glad to have you here.

I can only come on Saturday. Is that an option?
Yes! We welcome people to join us Saturday morning for breakfast, the start of our "Qwanoes Day Of Prayer", and then all the way through to dinner. You could even join in our evening fireside that night.
