HEALTH AND SAFETY

Health and safety is a high priority at Camp Qwanoes. Several hospitals and clinics are located within 20 minutes of Camp Qwanoes. Emergency phone instructions are posted by each pay-phone at camp. Groups are responsible for supplying their own First Aid Representative, (OFA Level 3 preferred) and first aid supplies. Note that groups larger than 100 guests must have an OFA Level 3 or equivalent First Aid Representative.

PROGRAM CONSULTATION AND SUPPLIES

Camp Qwanoes provides a program consultation service for all guest groups. A new service that we have added recently is Qwanoes Wide Games. We supply the ideas, the equipment and the leader, all you have to supply are some supervisors to help run the game!

In addition to such program facilities and equipment, Camp Qwanoes has the following program supplies available to guest groups for an additional charge: water blasters, balloon launchers, glowsticks, flagging tape, a carnival-style popcorn machine and popcorn, and a moon ball.

A guest group may opt to rent a large hot tub to have on-site for the duration of its stay at Camp Qwanoes, subject to availability. If notified in advance, the camp will make all necessary arrangements with the off-site rental company.

The large, versatile Club Coco building is within walking-distance of both Lodges.

BUS TRANSPORTATION

For guest groups from the Greater Vancouver area, return bus transportation is available from either of the Nanaimo ferry terminals to Camp Qwanoes. For all groups, bus transportation is available from Camp Qwanoes to one or more of the numerous local points of interest.

LOCAL POINTS OF INTEREST INCLUDE...

Plan a day trip or many...there are many local attactions that are open year round that are definitely worth checking out.

  • Saltspring Island, part of the beautiful Gulf Islands, is a picturesque favourite for visitors. The B.C. Ferry Terminal in Crofton to Saltspring Island is within 5 minutes of Camp Qwanoes.
  • The small, charming town of Chemainus is located within 15 minutes of Camp Qwanoes. Visit the giant, world-famous murals of Chemainus, browse through its unique and individual shops, enjoy some ice cream or fudge or an afternoon tea, or attend a performance at the high-quality Chemainus Theatre.
  • The Cowichan Community Centre in Duncan, within 20 minutes of Camp Qwanoes, offers a large swimming pool with sauna and whirlpool, a gym, and an ice arena. The Cowichan Centre is the home of the world's largest hockey stick and puck! Fall groups can inquire to see if Cowichan Capitals hockey tickets are available.
  • One of the Cowichan Valley's most popular tourist attractions, the B.C. Forest Museum, is located just north of Duncan, within 20 minutes of Camp Qwanoes. From early April until mid-October, the museum offers a wide range of exhibits, demonstrations, and historical collections for the enjoyment of everyone. From mid-May until Labour Day, go for a ride on the memorable steam train that circles the grounds of this 100-acre park.
  • Other notable attractions near Camp Qwanoes in the Cowichan Valley include the Cowichan Bay Maritime Museum, the Cowichan Valley Museum, and the Native Heritage Centre.
